Meet The Doctor

Dr. Datien brings both heart and expertise to First Smiles of Virginia. A proud graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy, she completed an accelerated 6-year BS/DDS program—earning her spot in dental school straight out of high school. She went on to complete her Pediatric Dentistry residency at MetroHealth Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident and worked closely with children who have special healthcare needs. She also completed a fellowship at The Ohio State University, bringing dental care directly to kids through mobile dental programs.

But what truly sets Dr. Datien apart? Her passion for helping children grow in confidence. She understands that the dentist can feel like a big, scary place—and she’s made it her mission to change that. Whether it’s teaching little ones how to speak up, giving them a sense of control, or celebrating their bravery, she loves watching kids transform from nervous to proud of themselves. That moment never gets old.

Dentistry runs deep in her roots—she comes from a family of dentists (both parents and even her grandfather!), so caring for smiles is practically in her DNA. And as a mom of three—Sofia, Mark, and John—she knows firsthand how important it is to find a dentist you can trust with your child’s comfort and care.

When she’s not in the office, Dr. Datien is spending time with her husband, Dr. Joseph Abiad (also a dentist), exploring new foods, enjoying the outdoors, or traveling with her family (fun fact: all three kids were frequent flyers before six months old!). At home, you’ll likely find the family’s miniature pinscher, Brindley, who’s traded puppy energy for a little “grumpy charm”.  

She’s also excited to connect with local families through school programs, early childhood outreach, and perinatal support groups across Hampton Roads.

Warm, approachable, and always ready with a perfectly timed “dad” joke, Dr. Datien is here to make your child’s dental experience a positive one—from their very first visit and beyond.
